To empower women, single mothers, and children affected by abuse through trauma-informed self-defense, safety planning, resilience training, and related support services.
That sentence comes straight out of our bylaws, adopted when we incorporated. It's the standard you can hold us to.
The systems that respond to abuse are built around the emergency. Hotlines, shelter beds, protective orders, emergency custody hearings. All of it exists to get someone through the worst week of their life, and it works.
What comes after is the part nobody funds. A survivor gets rehoused, the case closes, and she's left to put an ordinary life back together while her nervous system is still running an emergency. She flinches at the door, she can't sleep, she plans every route. Her kids have learned to read a room the way a bodyguard does.
Skills close some of that gap in a way sympathy can't. How to leave a room, how to break a grip, how to get yourself grounded in a parking lot, what your safety plan says when you're too rattled to think. These are all learnable. They just don't get offered to the people most likely to need them, in a form those people can actually sit through.
That's what we're here to do, for free, alongside the organizations already handling the crisis work well.
No fees, no sliding scale for the people we exist to serve, and no expectation that anyone fundraises for her own safety.
We don't run a shelter, a hotline, or a legal clinic. When a partner already does something well, we refer to them and get out of the way.
A licensed trauma clinician reviews the curriculum and the instructor protocols. If something isn't safe, it doesn't run.
Good trauma-informed instruction is professional work. Paying for it is how the quality stays consistent week to week.
Including when the truth is that we're early, underfunded, or that another organization suits you better than we do.

Incorporate in Pennsylvania, adopt bylaws and a conflict-of-interest policy, get an EIN, seat the board, and secure the 501(c)(3) determination.
Bring on the clinical advisor, finish the curriculum, and run the first groups in donated community space. Then fix what the feedback tells us to fix.
Sign agreements with instructors, clinicians, and DV agencies. Standardize the provider training and background screening.
More groups, more sites, and outcome measurement solid enough to support institutional grants and longer-term funding.
